Ruby – The Gemstone of Passion
Occurring in shades ranging from pinkish red to blood red, rubies have long been a symbol of passion, love and raw emotions.
Named after the Latin word ruber which means red, rubies are a variety of mineral corundum and possess a high level of hardness, second only to the diamond.
Prized for their deep blood red color and silky surface finish, top quality rubies can command the highest prices of all gemstones. Historically, many civilizations and cultures treasured rubies and believed that the red color signified the life force within them.
Ruby is also the birthstone of July and symbolic for 15th and 40th anniversaries.
